London police arrest terror suspect who escaped from prison
The BBC reported on Thursday that he may have sought information on behalf of Iran.
London’s Metropolitan Police apprehended terror suspect Daniel Khalife Saturday after he escaped prison earlier in the week, according to reports.
Khalife was taken into custody around 11 a.m. local time in the Chiswick area by local police, according to Fox News.
"We thank the public and media for their support," officials said, according to the outlet.
Khalife, 21, was discharged from the army based on accusations that he was obtaining information that could be "directly or indirectly useful to an enemy." The BBC reported on Thursday that he may have sought information on behalf of Iran.
He has also been accused of participating in a bomb hoax.
Khalife escaped from Majesty’s Prison Wandsworth on Wednesday, according to authorities.
"When you find a prison like Wandsworth, it really needs closing," Chief Inspector of Prisons Charlie Taylor said in a Politics Hub interview on Sky News. "Ultimately, it’s not a suitable prison."
"You need jails because you need to service the courts," he continued. "We’ve actually got a crisis at the moment in prisons just in terms of population places … there are only just enough prisons, places available, at the moment for the number of prisoners who are coming in."
