U.S. sending Ukraine $1.7 billion in security assistance
The aid package includes materiel support and funds
The Biden administration on Monday announced "additional security assistance to meet Ukraine's critical security and defense needs."
The aid package includes materiel "valued at up to $200 million" and $1.5 billion in funds, according to the Department of Defense.
Materiel support includes surface-to-air missile systems, high-caliber artillery rounds, small arms and secure communications systems.
The department reports the assistance marks the 62nd time the administration has providing Ukraine materiel support and the 20th time it has provided the nation with funds.
