IDF spokesperson says Israeli airstrike killed Hezbollah commander in Beirut

Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson Benjamin Lee said Tuesday that the IDF conducted an airstrike in Beirut, Lebanon that took out a Hezbollah commander. 

"I just came out of the operations room," Lee said on a zoom call conducted by the Combat Antisemitism Movement. "We have confirmation of a strike against the head of Hezbollah's rocket and missile force."

He specified that the strike occurred in the city's Dahieh neighborhood which he described as a Hezbollah stronghold. 

The Lebanese health ministry has said that six people died in the strike, according to Reuters.

The Hezbollah commander who was killed was Ibrahim Qubaisi, sources say. 

"This is not the first senior commander that we've targeted," Lee said on the zoom call. 

Over the weekend, Israel announced that it took out Hezbollah commander Ahmed Wahbi, who oversaw military operations of the group's Radwan special forces unit.
