Israel's Netanyahu confirms hostage deal with Hamas has been reached despite 'last minute crisis'
Netanayahu said he would convene his security Cabinet on Friday, followed by the government, to approve the agreement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday night confirmed that a hostage deal with Hamas has been reached, a day after he claimed a "last minute crisis" with Hamas prevented the deal from being finalized.
Israel and Hamas on Wednesday reached a deal that will halt fighting in Gaza, and includes the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and humanitarian aid for Gaza. But Netanyahu previously alleged that Hamas had been reneging on parts of the agreement to gain more concessions, which has since been resolved.
Netanayahu said he would convene his security Cabinet on Friday, followed by the government, to approve the agreement, according to the Associated Press.
If approved, the deal will begin on Sunday, and will be monitored in Egypt by the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar, who helped negotiate the agreement. President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump have both praised the deal.
