Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the occupied West Bank to go into "full lockdown" on Friday following reports from the Israeli military that it had killed two Palestinians accused of firing upon people near Hebron.

The shooting attack injured five people near the city, NBC News reported.

Netanyahu's office said it directed the Israel Defense Forces to "impose a closure" on Hebron and prepare to fully lock down the entire West Bank starting Friday. No further details were provided on the ordered closure.

Netanyahu blamed Hamas for the shooting and said the group was "planning a major attack" aimed at civilians. He pointed to "large quantities of weapons and ammunition" that were discovered but provided no further details of the alleged plot.

“Our brave soldiers thwarted this attack with courage and determination,” Netanyahu said in a statement.
