CNN host Don Lemon said his agent told him Monday that CNN terminated him after 17 years at the outlet, but the network did not take responsibility for the host's departure.

"After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network," Lemon wrote in a statement he posted on Twitter. "It is clear that there are some larger issues at play."

CNN said it "parted ways" with Lemon.

"Don will forever be a part of the CNN family, and we thank him for his contributions over the past 17 years," CNN CEO Chris Licht said after Lemon's departure. "We wish him well and will be cheering him on in his future endeavors."

His termination comes after Variety published an article earlier this month alleging Lemon had a history of issues with his female colleagues.

He was a co-host of "CNN This Morning" with Kaitlan Collins and Poppy Harlow.

Lemon was absent from the show for several days earlier this year after he said Republican presidential candidate "Nikki Haley isn't in her prime." He returned to the network after receiving training.
