Washington Post CEO and publisher Will Lewis announced Saturday that he’s leaving the paper after widespread lay-offs occurred earlier this week.

Lewis revealed his decision in an email to the Post’s staff, the Associated Press reported.

Lewis and billionaire Jeff Bezos, the owner, were not in the meeting with staff announcing the layoffs:

He wrote in the email that “difficult decisions have been taken in order to ensure the sustainable future of The Post.”
