NYC rocked by resignations amid federal corruption investigation

New York City's chief legal counsel resigned on Saturday, just one week after the FBI raided the homes of NYC Mayor Eric Adams' top aides.

Lisa Zornberg's resignation came just days after New York Police Department Commissioner Edward Caban resigned amid the federal corruption probe, Just the News reported.

Zornberg, a former Manhattan federal prosecutor, had served as NYC chief counsel since July 2023. Her departure comes as federal investigators are homing in on members of Adams' inner circle and his allies, the New York Post reported.

"I am deeply grateful to Mayor Adams for giving me the opportunity to serve the city, and I strongly support the work he has done and continues to do for New Yorkers," Zornberg said in a statement.

Adams thanked Zornberg for her tenure and promised to announce a replacement shortly.

Caban resigned last week after federal investigators raided his home and the homes of other NYPD higher-ups as part of a sweeping federal corruption probe.

Caban's twin, James, is also under investigation for allegedly serving as a "fixer" for Manhattan restaurants and clubs under the guise of "consulting."

The FBI also raided the homes of Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Phil Banks and the shared townhouse of Schools Chancellor David Banks and First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright.

No charges have been filed in the investigation.
