Rhode Island state senator ordered to pay restitution after keying car with 'Biden sucks' sticker
Miller was arrested in June after he vandalized a constituent's car and lied to the police about it.
A judge has ordered a Rhode Island Democrat state senator to pay restitution after keying a constituent's car with a "Biden Sucks" sticker.
"I am truly sorry for my actions in this matter, and I am disappointed in my behavior and lack of judgment," lawmaker Josh Miller said in court proceeding on Tuesday, according to The Boston Globe.
Miller was arrested in June after he vandalized a constituent's car and lied to the police about it. At first he denied suing a key to scrap the paint on the car, but later said the victim was "daring" him to do it.
"In a blink of an eye, I exhibited a lack of self-control that has impacted my reputation," he said, according to Fox News. "For that, I only have myself to blame as I am solely responsible for what led to today’s court proceedings."
At the arraignment, Miller pled no contest to the charges and is required to pay $2,850 in restitution to the owner of the car. The Globe reports that as long as he doesn't commit any more crimes this year, the case will be removed from his record.
The chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Party, Joe Powers, called on Miller to resign.
Miller says he has no plans to leave his public service job.
