Ukrainian officials said on Saturday that at least seven people, including a six-year-old girl, were killed in a Russian missile strike in the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv.

Approximately 90 people sought medical care after the attack, according to NPR, and a search-and-rescue effort is in effect.

The blast reportedly hit a main square, a theater and a university. Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that fires are still being extinguished and debris is being cleaned up.

"This is what a neighborhood with a terrorist state is," Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Instagram.

The attack occurred on an Eastern Slavic holiday, the Apple Feast of the Savior, which marks the beginning of fall, NPR reports.

Zelensky referred to what happened as a "day of pain and loss."
