Former U.S. Marine freed in 2022 Russia prisoner swap injured fighting in Ukraine
Former Marine Trevor Reed was taken to Germany, where he is being treated for his injuries.
Marine veteran Trevor Reed, part of a 2022 prisoner swap with Russia, reportedly has been injured while fighting in Ukraine.
Reed fighting in Ukraine and having been injured is being reported by CBS News, based on what the outlet says is information from an unnamed Biden administration official.
The official also said Reed was "not engaged in any activities on behalf of the U.S. government," as Russia's invasion roughly 17 months ago. The U.S. has joined other Western nation in supplying Ukraine with military assistance but has not sent soldiers.
Reed was arrested in Moscow while visiting his Russian girlfriend in 2019. He was wrongfully imprisoned for almost three years. He was exchange for Konstantin Yaroshenko, a pilot from Russia who was sentenced in 20111 for tryin to smuggle cocaine into the United States.
Reed is being treated for his injuries in Germany after receiving assistance from a nongovernmental organization, the official also said.
It is unknown when or where Reed was hurt in Ukraine and what injuries he sustained.
