US, Russian negotiators to meet in Saudi Arabia as White House pushes for ceasefire in Ukraine war
Over the weekend, the Kremlin said that there were "difficult negotiations ahead."
Negotiators from Russia and the U.S. will meet Monday in Saudi Arabia to discuss possible solutions to end the war in Ukraine as the White House pushes for a ceasefire.
President Donald Trump spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin last week about the possibility of an "energy and infrastructure ceasefire" and to begin negotiations on the implementation of a "maritime ceasefire" in the three-year-long Russia-Ukraine war.
Putin reportedly said during the talk that he would stop ordering strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said during the news conference was at "odds with reality."
Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff said during an interview with Fox News on Sunday that he hoped for progress during these talks.
Over the weekend, the Kremlin said that there were "difficult negotiations ahead," according to ABC News.
"We are only at the beginning of this path," Russian diplomat Dmitry Peskov told Russian state television.
