Lawyers for actress and singer Selena Gomez filed a motion in Delaware federal court on Wednesday, asking a judge to dismiss a lawsuit brought by investors of Wondermind Global. 

The lawsuit accuses Gomez, her mom, Mandy Teefy, and their former business partner, Daniella Pierson, of fraud and breach of contract. 

The complaint claims that the plaintiffs invested nearly $1.2 million in the startup in 2022, after Gomez, Teefey and Pierson allegedly "falsely represented that the Company had the infrastructure, leadership, and resources necessary for the Company to launch into a profitable, one-of-its-kind mental health and wellness platform."

Mathew S. Rosengart, an attorney for Gomez, said in a statement to NBC News that the accusations are "absurd." 

"In addition to filing our motion, we are exploring other avenues of relief for Ms. Gomez including sanctions against plaintiffs for improperly including her,” Rosengart said. 

Gomez’s attorneys argue in the motion that the lawsuit does not specify any false statements the singer made personally to investors and that she was not even a member of the board. The lawyers also argue in their motion that Gomez never agreed to manage Wondermind and did not hold a minority stake in the company.

A representative for Pierson told USA Today that she denies the allegations and welcomes the opportunity to prove in court she never used investor funds for personal expenses. She invested her own money, according to the representative, and did not draw a salary from the company.
