Whistleblower group seeks investigation of federal air marshals for improperly targeting citizens

A whistleblower warned as early as 2021 that he suspected federal air marshals were improperly targeting U.S. citizens for surveillance but received no updates on an investigation. 

The actions by the U.S. Federal Air Marshals Service have come under renewed scrutiny after additional whistleblowers came forward claiming that former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democrat who has been critical of the Biden Administration, was targeted for surveillance the Quiet Skies Program. 

This whistleblower, who made disclosures to the Department of Homeland Security inspector general and Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., with the help of whistleblower group Empower Oversight, discovered that his wife was labeled a "domestic terrorist" and targeted under a similar program to Gabbard after she attended former President Donald Trump's "Stop the Steal" rally at the Ellipse on January 6, 2021. 

"She was nowhere near the U.S. Capitol complex that day, yet her FAMS file falsely stated she 'unlawfully entered the United States Capitol Building on 1/06/2021.' Being targeted for Special Mission Coverage results in additional TSA screening as well as FAMS airport and flight surveillance," Tristan Leavitt, president of Empower Oversight wrote to the DHS inspector general Monday.

The whistleblower's supervisors were reportedly unhelpful after he approached them with information that his wife was improperly targeted. The U.S. Office of Special Counsel then refused to refer the whistleblower's complaint to the inspector general, pushing him to forward the complaint directly. However, the whistleblower never heard back after the office said it would investigate. 

In light of the new revelations about Gabbard, Empower Oversight is calling, again, for an investigation into the whistleblowers allegations.
