8-year-old migrant girl dies in Border Patrol custody after experiencing a medical emergency

An 8-year-old migrant girl died in Border Patrol custody earlier this week after experiencing a medical emergency, authorities say.
The girl and her family were being held at a station in Harlingen, Texas, in the Rio Grande Valley. This is one of the largest passages for illegal crossings, according to the Associated Press.
The Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting an investigation of the incident, according to Customs and Border Protection.
"The child and her family were in custody at the Harlingen Station where she experienced a medical emergency," CBP said in a statement. "Emergency Medical Services were called to the station and transported her to the local hospital where she was pronounced dead."
Sgt. Larry Moore, a spokesperson for the Harlingen Police Department, said he currently has no information about the death, AP reports.
