China President Xi Jinping not expected to attend Trump inauguration

CBS News first reported that after Trump was elected, he had invited Xi to the swearing-in ceremony.

China President Xi Jinping will reportedly not attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration next month. 

CBS News reported Trump invited Xi, then later that he declined the invitation, based on information from sources. 

However, China's ambassador to the U.S. and his wife will likely be attending  sources told the news outlet.

Incoming White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said on Fox News that other world leaders have been invited to the inauguration.

According to State Department records, a Chinese head of state has not attended a U.S. inauguration in years.

"We have a good relationship with China. I have a good relationship," Trump said during a CNBC interview. "We've been talking and discussing with President Xi some things."
