Former New York Gov. David Paterson and his stepson were attacked while walking dog: report

Former New York Democratic Gov. David Paterson and his stepson were reportedly attacked while out walking their dog. 

Paterson and his stepson, 20-year-old Anthony Chester Sliwa, were walking their dog on the Upper East Side Friday evening, according to Paterson's spokesperson. 

They saw several young people who they thought might be teenagers climbing up a fire escape a little before 9 p.m.

Sliwa and Paterson told them to stop, resulting in their being attacked, according to an exclusive report from the New York Post.

In a later report, the New York Daily News reported that it was five people who attacked the former governor and Sliwa, and that Sliwa had confronted them earlier in the evening when he spotted them climbing a nearby fire escape. The Daily News carried photos of the suspects after the police released surveillance footage of them. 

“They both suffered some injuries but were able to fight off their attackers,” Paterson's spokesperson said. 

Sources say that Sliwa got face injuries while Paterson, who is legally blind, got a head injury. As of now no arrests have occurred but a police report was filed. 

Paterson, who was governor of New York from 2008 to 2010, married the ex-wife of Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa in 2019.
