Jannik Sinner defeats Taylor Fritz in US Open men’s final weeks after exonerated in doping case

Jannik Sinner on Sunday defeated American Taylor Fritz in three sets to win the 2024 U.S. Open men's tennis title. 

The No. 1-ranked Sinner defeated Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5, less than three weeks after being exonerated in a doping case, according to the Associated Press

In the victory Sunday in Flushing Meadows, New York, the 23-year-old from Italy captured his second Grand Slam trophy.

The other was the Australian Open in January, also according to the wire service.

The No. 12-ranked Fritz was trying to win the first major tennis title for American men in roughly 21 years. 

American Andy Roddick’s Flushing Meadows win in 2003 was the last Grand Slam title for a man from the United States, the wire service also reports.
