Letitia James intern, Susan Sarandon and Rep. Omar's daughter attended Columbia anti-Israel protest
Omar wrote on the social media platform, X, that she was "enormously proud" of her daughter.
The anti-Israel protest at Columbia University had some prominent attendees, including the daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., actress Susan Sarandon and a former intern of Democratic New York Attorney General Letitia James.
Omar's daughter, Isra Hirsi, posted that she was among the Columbia students who had been suspended over a makeshift encampment and protest on Thursday morning, despite not having any prior disciplinary warnings or record. She was also one of more than 100 students arrested in connection with the protest.
Omar wrote on the social media platform, X, that she was "enormously proud" of her daughter.
Other members of the far left "squad" in Congress condemned the suspension of Hirsi, with Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., saying that students' constitutional rights were being violated.
According to the New York Post, Avery Reed, a former summer intern for Letitia James, also attended the protest.
Actress Susan Sarandon, who was dropped from a production company due to an antisemitic rant, was also there.
“I am here to support the students who understand that it is very important to have their voices heard,” Sarandon said during an interview about the protest.
The Palestinian-affiliated group Hamas launched a terror attack on Israel in October 2023, which resulted in Israel declaring war on Hamas in Gaza.
As the war continues, anti-Israel and pro-Hamas protests have erupted across the country.
