'QAnon Shaman' released from halfway house, ending his time in custody

Jacob Chansley, the so-called "QAnon Shaman" who was caught up in the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol, was released from a halfway house earlier this week.

Chansley's attorney, Albert Watkins, said that his client is "now appropriately free to continue in his peaceful quest to heal," according to The Hill.

"I sincerely wish Jake the absolute best as he moves forward with his life,” Watkins continued.

Chansley was sentenced to 41 months in prison in November 2021 for his role in the January 6 riot. He was sent to the halfway house about a year-and-a-half later.

His sentence was reduced due to his good behavior in prison.

In September 2021, he pled guilty to a felony charge of obstruction of an official proceeding that allowed for the dismissal of five other charges against him.

“Jake is remarkably intelligent, peaceful to his core and a gentle young man with a very bright future. We can all learn a great deal from this young man,” his lawyer said.

He gained the nickname of "QAnon Shaman" because of the face paint and headdress he wore during the January 6 protests.
