Investigators have recovered a second black box from the downed passenger plane Azerbaijan Airlines in which 38 people were killed, hoping the discovery will help them learn the cause of the crash.

There is some speculation among experts the Russian military could have played a role in the  plane crash in Kazakhstan.

The Russian military said that the crash was a result of a bird strike, according to CBS News.

Azerbaijan Airlines Flight 8243 was making a trip to Grozny from the Azerbaijani capital of Baku earlier this week. It later diverted and crashed, killing 38 people. Twenty-nine people survived.

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan said it's too soon to speculate what led to the crash.

However, a U.S. official told CBS News that said that it was possible a Russian anti-aircraft system hit the plane while it was flying.

A flight analysis expert at the media outlet said it doesn't look like a bird strike could have caused this.

"Birds don't fly at the type of an altitude that the initial damage occurred on this airplane," former chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board Robert Sumwalt told the outlet.
