Tulsi Gabbard says Democratic elites are destroying democracy in the name of saving it
"I don't use these words lightly," Gabbard said.
Former Democrat presidential candidate and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard said Thursday that elite members of the Democratic party are "destroying democracy" in the name of saving it.
"Our democracy is under attack," Gabbard said at the annual CPAC event outside of Washington, D.C., in suburban Maryland. "The perpetrators of this attack are those who in the name of saving our democracy are destroying it. I don't use these words lightly."
"Today we see the Democrat elite say with great concern in their voice that if the American people elect Donald Trump again, they warn us he will destroy our democracy," she later said. "They say that he will be the dictator in chief. They say if he's elected it will be the last election this country sees. It's laughable ... but they're justifying their actions by telling themselves that they need to destroy our democracy in order to save it.
An example Gabbard provided regarding elected officials attempting to destroy democracy was the different states trying to remove former President Donald Trump from the 2024 ballot.
Different states including Maine and Colorado have attempted to remove former President Donald Trump from the ballot, although the Supreme Court appeared skeptical of such arguments.
"In defiance of the Constitution, these people are single handedly deciding that somehow they alone have the authority to take away our right as citizens to decide who we want to be our nominee for president," Gabbard said.
