Rookie cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings, Khyree Jackson passed away in a car accident at the age of 24, the team announced Saturday.

"We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson’s death following an overnight car accident," the team posted on the social media platform, X. "Our thoughts are with Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident."

As of now there are few details about the crash, but Jackson's mother told TMZ that her son died in his hometown in Maryland. Two other former college football players, both of whom were high school teammates with Jackson, also died in the accident.

Prior to being drafted by the Vikings, Jackson played college football at the University of Oregon.

The head football coach at the university, Dan Lanning, offered his condolences, saying, "RIP RIP Khyree… Love you @Real_Khyree. At a loss for words. I will miss your smile. Great player. Better person."

Vikings coach Kevin O'Connell also released a statement.

"I am absolutely crushed by this news," he said, according to ESPN. "Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him. In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him. I am at a loss for words. My heart goes out to Khyree's family, friends, teammates and coaches."
