Adams aide charged with witness tampering, destroying evidence in fed bribery case against NYC mayor

A former aide to New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams was charged Tuesday with witness tampering and destroying evidence in connection to a federal investigation that led to Adams’ bribery indictment, according to news reports.

Federal prosecutors allege Mohamed Bahi, who resigned Monday as a the city's community affairs liaison, told a businessman and campaign donors in June to lie to the FBI. They also allege he deleted the encrypted messaging app Signal from his cell phone as FBI agents arrived to search his home in July, according to the Associated Press.

Bahi allegedly used the app to communicate with Adams. He is the first person other than Adams to be charged in the investigation. However, over a half-dozen of the mayor’s top aides have quit amid the scandal, the wire service also reports.
