Biden Energy secretary called out for secret talks with major CCP official
Scalise called out Granholm, claiming that the Biden administration "always puts America last."
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm was called out by lawmakers after a Fox News Digital report that she held secret meetings with a CCP official just before the White House came out with plans to tap into emergency oil stocks.
"Before telling the American people of their plans to undermine our energy security by draining the SPR [Strategic Petroleum Reserve] at record rates for political purposes before the midterm elections, Secretary Granholm reportedly first secretly consulted with the Chinese Communist Party," House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers said in a statement, according to Fox News.
Americans for Public Trust obtained calendars from the Department of Energy (DOE) that indicated Granholm consulted via a Zoom call with China National Energy Administration Chairman Zhang Jianhua, a senior member of the Chinese Communist Party, two days before the White House announced a release of 50 million barrels of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in November of 2021.
"Since then, DOE — under her leadership — has sold millions of barrels of oil from our SPR to China — the world’s biggest polluter," Rodgers stated. "It would appear Secretary Granholm meant it when she said America should 'learn' from what China is doing."
House GOP Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) called out Granholm as well, claiming that the Biden administration "always puts America last."
Georgia GOP Rep. Mike Collins also criticized Granholm.
"Why does communist China have more input on U.S. energy policy than the American people under the Biden administration?" Collins asked.
