Trump's portrait removed from Colorado state capitol after president says 'purposefully distorted'
President Donald Trump previously criticized his Colorado portrait.
President Donald Trump’s official portrait has been removed from the Colorado state capitol because he complained that it was "purposefully distorted."
The Colorado General Assembly’s executive committee, comprised of Republicans and Democrats, decided to remove the portrait on Monday, adding that the portrait would be removed on the same day after the state Capitol is closed.
The recent news came after Trump's criticism of the portrait on Truth Social, claiming that it was "purposefully distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before."
Republican leadership in the state also wanted the portrait gone.
"If the GOP wants to spend time and money on which portrait of Trump hangs in the Capitol, then that’s up to them," said Jarrett Freedman, a spokesman for state Democrats.
Senate Minority Leader Paul Lundeen, one of the Republicans who requested to remove the portrait, asked the local government to replace the portrait with one “that depicts [Trump's] contemporary likeness.”
