Republican Rep. Liz Cheney is trailing her primary challenger by high double-digits ahead of this summer’s GOP primary, a sign that the thrice-elected politician has an uphill battle even just to compete in the November election.

A voter poll, conducted by WPA Intelligence on behalf of the conservative Club for Growth, shows Cheney trailing challenger Harriet Hageman among GOP primary voters by 30 points, 56-26.

Hagemen, an attorney and outspoken Cheney critic, has vowed if elected to “[fight] back against big government bureaucrats who want to manage our lands, control our lives, and dictate what we are allowed to think and say.”

Cheney has received sustained criticism from conservative and Republican voters for her support of the second impeachment of then-President Donald Trump in 2021 following the brief riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Backlash to that support led to Cheney’s being ousted as chair of the House Republican Conference in May of 2021, with pro-Trump Republicans succeeding in forcing her out after failing to do so in February of that year.
