Austin Scott endorses Jim Jordan for House speaker, says Congress must 'unite' to get 'back to work'
Jordan, the founder of the conservative Freedom Caucus, has led numerous executive branch investigations as House Judiciary Committee chairman.
Georgia Republican Rep. Austin Scott endorsed Rep. Jim Jordan for the position of House speaker and urged his party to unite behind the Ohio GOP lawmaker.
"I highly respect Jim Jordan. He is an asset to the Republican Party and our nominee for Speaker. Our conference has spoken, and now we must unite behind Jordan so we can get Congress back to work," Scott said on X, formerly Twitter, Friday.
Scott's endorsement of Jordan comes after he said earlier in the day that he filed the paperwork to run for the position of speaker.
Jordan, the founder of the conservative Freedom Caucus who has led numerous executive branch investigations as House Judiciary Committee chairman, has received endorsements from many GOP members of Congress in his bid for speaker after the House ousted Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise withdrew from the race.
Multiple Republicans have endorsed Jordan, including New York Rep. Nick Langworthy, Illinois Rep. Darin LaHood and Indiana Rep. Jim Banks, who called Jordan "Speaker-designate."
Former President Donald Trump has also backed Jordan for speaker.
