House Oversight Chairman James Comer warned Tuesday night that the alleged fraud found in Minnesota is likely more widespread than Democrats want voters to believe.

Federal prosecutors have uncovered multiple alleged fraud schemes involving Somali immigrants in Minnesota that have siphoned billions in taxpayer money from food, welfare and autism safety net programs recently. The investigations have netted 77 indictments so far, with 56 convictions.

Comer said his committee is investigating several areas and that revelations from whistleblowers counter Democratic claims that illegal migrants are not on welfare programs and that there is no fraud or abuse within the welfare system.

"I think what we're going to find in Minnesota is probably happening in many other states," Comer said on the "Just The News, No Noise" TV show. "Minnesota could be and hopefully is the worst offender, but there are other blue states run by blue by Democrat governors who refuse to turn over any data, not only to Congress, but to the cabinet secretaries like [Agriculture Secretary] Brooke Rollins who are trying to get a handle on programs like SNAP."

Comer claimed that there have been reports that state governments were warned about alleged fraud numerous times, yet they failed to look into the allegations in order to appease liberal voters.

"This is all about politics," Comer said. "The Democrats that champion many of these social programs. They don't care if there's massive amounts of waste, fraud or abuse, as long as their voting base is happy. That's the difference between most Republicans and most Democrats in Congress.

"Republicans care about our tax dollars and sincerely want to eliminate waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement," he continued. "Democrats don't care, as long as their base is happy, as long as they can continue to take credit for all types of welfare programs, then they want to continue to do."

The chairman added that he believes the fraud is woven into many different social programs, including agriculture programs, education programs, housing programs and "other forms of welfare assistance."

“We're serious about providing oversight," he said. "We're serious about rooting out waste, fraud and abuse ... This isn't just about Minnesota. This isn't just about the Somali community. This is about every state and every social program, because we believe that this is happening in other states ... Hopefully we'll have more state employees step forward and do the right thing and blow the whistle.”
