Congress passes $2.1 billion Capitol security bill

Both chambers of Congress on Thursday passed a bill that would secure funding for the U.S. Capitol and Capitol Police, covering increased staffing needs and other security measures following the Jan. 6 riot.

The House voted 416 to 11 for the $2.1 billion emergency supplemental funding bill, according to NBC News.

Hours earlier, the Senate voted 98-0  for the bill, which includes almost $1 billion for Capitol security, $100 million for the Capitol Police, $300 million for security measures, and $500 million for the National Guard, which had left the city in May after being stationed there during the aftermath of the Jan. 6 riot.

The measure now heads to President Biden's desk for his signature.
