Forecasts heading into Election Day show GOP gaining up to 33 House seats

Political forecasts heading into Election Day show the Republican Party gaining up to 33 House seats on Tuesday.

The current makeup of the Democratic-led House is 220-212. 

According to FiveThirtyEight's forecast model, Republicans have an 80% chance of winning between 214 and 246 seats. FiveThirtyEight also estimates that Republicans have an 83% chance of winning the 218 seats needed for a majority.

Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball, which is produced by the University of Virginia Center for Politics, has predicted a 237-198 Republican-led House, or a net Republican gain of 24 seats.

The Cook Political Report lists 36 House races as toss-ups including Democratic incumbents Rep. Abigal Spanberger in Virginia's 7th district, Rep. Katie Porter in California's 47th district, Rep. Elaine Luria in Virginia's 2nd district, Rep. Susan Wild of Pennsylvania's 7th district, Elissa Slotkin in Michigan's 8th district and Rep. Henry Cuellar in Texas' 28th district.

Politico's election forecast shows Republicans with 216 seats in the solid, likely or lean GOP category. Their forecast rates 26 races as toss-ups.
