Grassley, Johnson demand Justice answer about suppressing Hunter Biden laptop story online

GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley and Sen. Ron Johnson are demanding the Justice Department provides answers about how the FBI reportedly urged social media companies to suppress the Hunter Biden laptop story, which possibly interfered with the 2020 election results.

"The FBI’s consistent efforts to falsely paint information relating to Biden family misconduct as Russian disinformation continues to draw serious concerns," the senators wrote in a letter Monday to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray.

The FBI said last week that it "routinely notifies" private entities, including social media platforms, of possible threats after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook "decreased" the distribution of the story involving the controversial contents on the laptop of then-candidate Joe Biden's son, Hunter.

Johnson, of Wisconsin, and Grassley, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said whistleblowers have alleged that the FBI worked to downplay the Biden story and not look at the laptop after it entered the agency's custody.

"The American people deserve to know whether the FBI used Facebook or other social media companies as part of their alleged plan to discredit information about Hunter Biden," said Johnson, and Grassley, of Iowa.
