Here are the House members investigating the Trump assassination attempt
“We have the utmost confidence in this bipartisan group of steady, highly qualified and capable Members of Congress to move quickly to find the facts, ensure accountability and help make certain such failures never happen again,” Johnson and Jeffries said in a joint statement.
House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Monday unveiled the 13 bipartisan House members appointed to a task force that will investigate the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
The House approved the creation of the task force last week, after a lone gunman attempted to assassinate the former president on July 13. The task force consists of seven Republicans, and six Democrats.
“We have the utmost confidence in this bipartisan group of steady, highly qualified and capable Members of Congress to move quickly to find the facts, ensure accountability and help make certain such failures never happen again,” Johnson and Jeffries said in a joint statement.
The seven Republicans chosen to investigate the shooting and subsequent security failings are:
Rep. Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania will chair the task force, because the shooting occurred in his district.
Rep. Mark Green of Tennessee
Rep. David Joyce of Ohio
Rep. Laurel Lee of Florida
Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida
Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana
Rep. Pat Fallon of Texas
The six Democrats chosen to sit on the panel are:
Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado, who will be the ranking member of the task force.
Rep. Lou Correa of California
Rep. Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania
Rep. Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania
Rep. Glenn Ivey of Maryland
Rep. Jared Moskowitz of Florida
Florida lawmaker Cory Mills, a Republican, said on Monday that he would conduct his own parallel investigation into the assassination attempt after he was not chosen to sit on the panel.
“It’s very unfortunate but not surprising for anyone familiar with how DC works. I’m not a politician, leadership, or a ‘yes man,’” Mills said in a statement. “I wish the members of [Speaker Johnson’s] Task Force well, and think it’s time for a parallel independent investigation with subject matter experts and the whistleblowers who’ve already come forward that myself and [Rep. Eli Crane] and [Benny Johnson] have spoken with."
Mills added that although he does not have subpoena power because he's not on the panel, he will "personally fund" the extra staff that will be needed to investigate the shooting.
