House backs resolution condemning antisemitism on college campuses
"We must ensure that Jewish communities are guaranteed their safety and that terrorist support on campuses is squashed," Stefanik said.
The House of Representatives on Thursday approved a resolution condemning antisemitism on American college campuses.
The lower chamber voted 396-23 in favor of the resolution, Fox News reported. Twenty-two of the dissenting votes were Democrats while Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., was the sole Republican opponent.
Prior to the vote, Massie posted on X, that "Free speech means protecting speech you don’t like, not just speech you do like." He further questioned what organizations had the authority to determine what constituted "antisemitism."
New York Republican Rep. Elise Stefanik, who brought the measure, celebrated its passing, saying "American 'elite' universities across the nation continue to enable antisemitism across their campuses, creating unsafe environments for members of the Jewish community."
"This morally sickening support of Hamas terrorists by student organizations and lack of response by campus leadership exposes the proliferation of open antisemitism," she said. "It is disgusting that since the Hamas terrorist attacks against Israel, there has been a 388% spike in antisemitic attacks across America. I am proud to lead this resolution to ensure that campus leadership at universities including my alma mater Harvard are held accountable for their roles in enabling antisemitism on their campuses."
"We must ensure that Jewish communities are guaranteed their safety and that terrorist support on campuses is squashed," Stefanik went on. "Joe Biden and the Far Left might not be able to call out this violent antisemitic language for what it is, but make no mistake, House Republicans condemn the propagandizing of terror on American soil."
The resolution comes in the wake of numerous incidents of antisemitic messaging and anti-Israel demonstrations at major American institutions such as Harvard and Cornell.
