A House Democrat introduced legislation on Tuesday afternoon that would force a vote on the release of the House Ethics Committee's report on former Florida GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz.

Senate Republicans and House Democrats have pushed the committee to publicly release the report on allegations that Gaetz engaged in sexual misconduct with a minor, after President-elect Donald Trump tapped Gaetz for his attorney general.

The push has continued after Gaetz withdrew his nomination for the position, but a separate Justice Department investigation into the allegations last year did not result in any criminal charges.

Illinois Democratic Rep. Sean Casten introduced the legislation that called for a vote on the report as a "privileged resolution," which gives the House a tight deadline of two business days to consider the vote.

"Resigning from Congress should not allow Members to avoid accountability for allegations as serious as those faced by Matt Gaetz," Casten said in a statement to Fox News. "Withholding this report from the American people would impede the dignity and integrity of the legislative proceedings of the House."

Casten previously introduced the same measure last month, but it expired over Thanksgiving break. The House will now have until Thursday to consider the new resolution.
