House GOP releases framework to 'restore energy dominance' lost under Biden
Rep. Graves says Democrats "want you to believe that high energy prices are an unavoidable price of a cleaner planet but the facts are not on their side."
House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy and House Select Climate Committee Ranking Member Garret Graves have released a framework for a Republican plan to "restore energy dominance" that the party says has been lost under President Joe Biden.
The formal proposal will be rolled out "over the coming months" by the Energy, Climate, and Conservation (ECC) Task Force, according to McCarthy's office.
"This agenda will deliver lower energy costs for consumers, create American jobs, and provide economic and energy security for American families by utilizing American resources and capitalizing on our competitive and technological advantage," Graves said in a statement.
"We can do this while also lowering global emissions and reducing reliance on foreign adversaries for our energy and resource needs," he added.
The policies that the task force will release cover 6 areas, including building “resilient communities” as well as unlocking American energy resources and innovation. The proposal also covers ways to beat China and Russia in the energy space and “conservation with a purpose.”
Graves said Democrats "want you to believe that high energy prices are an unavoidable price of a cleaner planet but the facts are not on their side."
"The United States led the world in lowering emissions while lowering energy costs for American households," he said. "We accomplished this by utilizing American resources made cheaper by innovation. Instead of punishing Americans with high prices, reducing consumer choice, or making it harder for Americans to innovate, we should be exporting this model of success to the rest of the world."
