The House GOP leadership unveiled the 200-page Lower Energy Costs Act on Tuesday, which Majority Leader Steve Scalise says will combat President Biden's "war on American energy."

The bill would "cut red tape and increase energy production here at home so we can lower energy costs and stop our dependence on hostile foreign countries for our energy and minerals," according to Scalise.

“Voters gave Republicans the majority in Congress to stop this radical anti-American energy agenda, and to take action that will lower prices,” Scalise said in a statement.

Scalise outlined the priorities of the legislation on Tuesday, which includes increasing the "production and processing of critical minerals."

The bill would seek to increase "domestic energy production, including in the Gulf of Mexico" and reform the "permitting process for all industries" as well as streamline "energy infrastructure and exports."

Scalise argued that Biden and "his extremist friends in Washington have waged a war on American energy, and hard-working families across the country are paying the price" with high utility costs and record prices at the gas pump.

The full legislation can be read here.
