House passes bill to deport illegal immigrants who assault cops with 148 Dems opposed, 54 in favor

The GOP-led House passed the "Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act" on Wednesday with 148 Democrats opposed.

The final vote was 265 to 148 with 54 Democrats voting in favor of the bill.

The legislation would "amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to provide for the detention of certain aliens who commit assault against law enforcement officer."

The bill was voted on as part of the legislation the House is trying to pass during "Police Week."

House GOP lawmakers kicked off Police Week with a vigil on Tuesday evening in honor of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
