House passes package of funding bills for Justice, Energy, Commerce departments
The three bills will now go to the Senate. If passed, Congress will have approved six of the 12 appropriation bills. All 12 bills have already passed the House Appropriations Committee.
The House on Thursday passed a package of three spending bills that includes funding for the Departments of Justice, Energy, Commerce and Interior.
The package comes ahead of a January 30 deadline to avoid another government shutdown. Both chambers need to pass 12 appropriation bills that provide funding for the federal government before the deadline.
The House passed the spending package in a bipartisan 397-28 split, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune is eying consideration of the package as early as next week, according to Politico.
"Today, the House took another step forward in advancing three more FY26 appropriations bills to President Trump’s desk," House Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole said in a statement. "Through bipartisan, committee-led consensus, we are delivering full-year measures that spend less than current funding, implement critical priorities for our districts, and continue to advance the America First agenda.
"This package reflects a commitment to governing discipline, transparency, and purpose," he continued. "It is exactly the kind of responsible legislating the American people expect – and deserve – from Congress."
The package will also fund the Environmental Protection Agency and other significant science agencies.
