The House of Representatives on Wednesday afternoon voted to narrowly advance the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act, setting it up for a final vote later Wednesday.

The sprawling defense bill passed in a narrow 215-211 split, which saw all Republicans except Kentucky GOP Rep. Thomas Massie vote in favor of the legislation.

Several other Republicans flipped from an expected "no" vote earlier Wednesday to advance the bill, according to Politico. A group of centrist GOP lawmakers, including Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Mike Lawler and Nick LaLota of New York, withheld their votes.

The legislation is also expected to have some Democratic support in its final vote, which could offset some Republican resistance, because it's considered a compromise by including language to require the Pentagon to hand over “unedited video of strikes conducted against designated terrorist organizations in the area of responsibility of the United States Southern Command.”
