House task force requests documents from Biden admin on second Trump assassination attempt
The task force sent two letters on Friday. The first letter went to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI, and the second went to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the United States Secret Service (USSS).
The House task force investigating the assassination attempts on former President Donald Trump requested documents on Friday from the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, and the FBI, related to the second assassination attempt.
The House of Representatives established a task force to investigate the first shooting, which occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July. They have since been tasked with also investigating the second assassination attempt in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sept. 15. The group consists of seven Republicans and six Democrats.
The task force sent two letters on Friday. The first letter went to the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI, and the second went to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the United States Secret Service (USSS).
Both letters requested "all records in the possession, custody, or control" of each office related to the assassination attempt by Oct. 11. The task force also warned the DOJ that its request on Wednesday to indefinitely postpone the suspect's trial does not mean they can delay producing the requested documents to the House.
Among the requested items from the DOJ and FBI were "all intelligence related to threats to former President Donald J. Trump that were considered active, ongoing, or unresolved on September 15, 2024, regardless of whether such threats were specific to Ryan Wesley Routh or the September 15 event, and regardless of when such threats originated."
The task force also asked that several lead FBI agents related to the Sept. 15 attack be available for interviews, including the lead FBI agent investigating the Florida assassination attempt. It also requested to speak with several Secret Service agents related to the shooting, including the agent who fired their weapon at Routh.
The requests come after Congress approved heightened Secret Service details for both Trump, and Vice President Kamala Harris, who is the Democratic nominee for president.
