House to vote on Green's resolution censuring Tlaib as Democrats urge censure of Greene

The House is expected to vote today on Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's resolution to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., while House Democrats responded by pushing forward a resolution to censure Greene. 

Separately, the House will also consider a resolution to expel Rep. Antony Santos, R-N.Y., who is being investigated by the House Ethics Committee and pleaded not guilty last week to federal fraud charges, Punchbowl News reported Wednesday. All 212 Democrats are expected to support the measure, but they would need at least 77 Republicans to join them for it to pass.

Greene introduced her resolution to censure Tlaib last week under the title: "Censuring Representative Rashida Tlaib for antisemitic activity, sympathizing with terrorist organizations, and leading an insurrection at the United States Capitol Complex."

In a post Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter, Greene said, "Tlaib must be censured for her anti-American, antisemitic hatred." Her resolution currently has eight Republican cosponsors.

Meanwhile, Vermont Democrat Becca Balint introduced a resolution in July to censure Greene, and while it does not have any cosponsors as of Wednesday afternoon, she is pushing the resolution forward following the Georgia Republican's efforts targeting Tlaib.

"Rep. Greene’s actions and statements in particular — her record of antisemitic, anti-LGBTQ, xenophobic and racist rhetoric and conspiracy theories — should be roundly condemned by her party," Balint wrote Wednesday in an op-ed for MSNBC.

Greene's resolution targeting Tlaib "is an Islamophobic attack on the only Palestinian American member of Congress" and is "riddled with lies," Balint also said.

Tlaib last week called Greene's resolution "unhinged" and "deeply Islamophobic."

Greene's censure resolution alleges Tlaib made anti-Israel statements after Hamas terrorists invaded Israel and killed more than 1,400 people, including at least 31 U.S. citizens, on Oct. 7. It also claims Tlaib helped organize a pro-Palestine protest on Capitol Hill in support of a ceasefire.

While House Democrats are divided over Israel, senior party officials reportedly expect all of their members to vote in favor of tabling Greene's resolution, effectively killing it.
