House votes to send FISA extension to Senate
An amendment to require a warrant failed last week in a tied 212-212 vote, with House Speaker Mike Johnson voting against it.
The House voted Monday in favor of sending to the Senate a measure to extend authorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act's Section 702 surveillance authority.
The House approved the transmission of the bill in a 259-128 vote.
The lower chamber last week approved a two-year extension of the surveillance tools, which allow for the warrantless surveillance of foreigners abroad and the compilation of a database of relevant materials. Both provisions have come under scrutiny due to the possibility of incidentally sweeping up data on Americans without a warrant.
