Kansas Sen. Marshall brings forth resolution declaring an invasion at southern border
“Joe Biden has the power to secure our borders; instead, he has chosen to break the law, resulting in the worst border crisis in history," Marshall said during his floor speech.
Senator Roger Marshall, R-Kan., on Tuesday brought forth a resolution to the Senate floor that declares an invasion at the U.S.-Mexico border.
“Joe Biden has the power to secure our borders; instead, he has chosen to break the law, resulting in the worst border crisis in history," Marshall said during his floor speech.
According to the Kansas senator, this resolution would empower governors to secure the southern border without interference from the federal government.
This resolution comes shortly after multiple governors from red states threw support behind Texas following the Supreme Court's siding with the Biden administration by temporarily vacating a Fifth Circuit injunction preventing federal agents from cutting the "concertina" razor wire fencing that Texas placed along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wrote in a social media post in response that "Biden has instructed his agencies to ignore federal statutes that mandate the detention of illegal immigrants" and that he had "enticed illegal immigrants away from the 28 legal entry points along the State's southern border." He also said that Texas would continue to "deploy this razor wire to repel illegal immigration."
Marshall said that Abbott has a constitutional right to protect the people of his state.
“The President has not done his constitutional duty, we’ve established that," Marshall said. "Thus, we must invoke and concur with the governor of Texas, that an actual invasion has occurred."
