House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday threatened to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress if he does not comply with a request for a document about an alleged bribery scheme involving then-Vice President Joe Biden.

"I have a message for FBI Director Christopher Wray: If he misses today's deadline to turn over subpoenaed documents to Congress, I am prepared to move contempt charges against him," McCarthy, a California Republican, wrote on Twitter and said during an appearance on "Fox & Friends."

The threat to hold Wray in contempt comes after House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) indicated last week that he may seek to hold the FBI director in contempt if he refused to give House investigators the documents that they requested.

Congressional Republicans have been seeking a whistleblower form that states Biden allegedly participated in a bribery scheme with a foreign national.
