Lindsey Graham blasts 'double standard' for treatment of Trump compared to Clintons
Bill Clinton "would be prosecuted for perjury" under the current standard being applied to Trump, Graham said.
South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham criticized the U.S. justice system and the treatment of former President Donald Trump compared to other politicians such as former President Bill Clinton and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Graham told ABC News' "This Week" on Sunday that he is still endorsing Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, but he is "not justifying" Trump's actions after the former president was indicted last week on 37 counts related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents.
Bill Clinton "would be prosecuted for perjury" under the current standard being applied to Trump, Graham said. The House had charged Clinton with perjury based on conflicting testimony he gave related to his relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. The Senate later acquitted him in the impeachment trial.
Graham also voiced his problems with the treatment of Hillary Clinton, whom the FBI did not charge after probing her use of a private email server while at the State Department.
"Most Republicans believe we live in a country where Hillary Clinton did very similar things and nothing happened to her," Graham said. "Did [Trump] do things wrong? Yes, he may have. He will be tried about that. But Hillary Clinton wasn't."
