MTG to lead new DOGE subcommittee, already under attack by Dems about mission
Greene said the hearings that the new committee would hold could lead to firings of government bureaucrats.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., will lead a brand new subcommittee that will work with the Department of Government Efficiency, a commission President-elect Donald Trump has tapped Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., and other committee lawmakers have met with the DOGE team, including Ramaswamy, who will co-lead the department to discuss the subcommittee and its role, a source familiar told Just the News.
The panel will be called the Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“I’m excited to chair this new subcommittee designed to work hand in hand with President Trump, Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, and the entire DOGE team,” Greene told CNBC News in a statement. She said the hearings that the new committee would hold could lead to firings of government bureaucrats.
The panel's ranking member, Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., sharply criticized the announcement in a press release.
"It’s hard to keep track of all the new departments and bureaucracies the Republicans are setting up to study the size and efficiency of government. But isn’t that what Chairman Comer and the Committee on Oversight and Accountability actually said they were doing over the last two years?" Raskin asked.
"Where’s their report and recommendations? Perhaps the impeachment flop derailed them a bit," he suggested.
Earlier this year, the Oversight Committee concluded an impeachment investigation into President Joe Biden that Raskin denounced repeatedly.
Yet, contrary to Raskin's claim, the committee also completed several investigations related to its authority to probe waste, fraud, and abuse across the federal government. For example, the committee investigated and released reports on pandemic unemployment relief fraud, on "Red Tape" Biden administration regulations, and the norm-breaking behavior of Chair Lina Khan on the Federal Trade Commission.
Trump announced the formation of DOGE earlier this month and gave Musk and Ramaswamy the sweeping mission to "dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies," Just the News previously reported.
