LinkedIn is planning to layoff thousands of employees representing about 5% of its total workforce. 

The Microsoft-owned professional social-networking site is expected to inform staff of the cuts on Wednesday, according to Reuters, which cited unnamed sources. 

The move comes as part of the company's plan to reorganize its teams to focus on the areas in which the company is growing. 

Microsoft securities filings show LinkedIn, which sells recruiting tools and subscriptions, saw a 12% increase in revenue in the first quarter of fiscal 2026 over the previous quarter.

LinkedIn employs more than 17,500 full-time staff worldwide, according to its website.
