Mitch McConnell falls down stairs outside of Senate chamber
McConnell appeared to fall as he was headed to a GOP lunch meeting in the Mansfield Room. Some senators said he also fell during the lunch.
Former Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell on Wednesday slipped on the stairs outside of the upper chamber, after confirming Scott Turner to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
McConnell, who led the Republican conference in the upper chamber from 2007 to 2025, appeared to fall as he was headed to a GOP lunch meeting in the Mansfield Room. Some senators told The Hill that he also fell during the lunch.
The latest incident comes after the 82-year-old Kentucky senator fell in December, following a lunch meeting held by Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso.
McConnell has not publicly commented on the incident so far. But he was escorted to his old Capitol Building office by his aides and security after the meeting, and was later spotted being pushed through the Capitol in a wheelchair, per The Hill.
