South Carolina GOP Rep. Nancy Mace on Tuesday night said she was "physically accosted" by a pro-transgender activist on Capitol Hill, who has been arrested by Capitol Police.

The congresswoman has claimed that she's been receiving death threats recently, after she proposed a bathroom bill that would ban transgender people from using bathrooms on Capitol Hill that do not align with their biological sex.

"I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women," Mace said in a post on X. "Capitol police have arrested him. All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight for women!"

Mace said her arm and wrist were injured in a post on her personal X account, but that a "brace" and "some ice" would heal it.

Capitol Police confirmed the incident to Fox News, and said the incident was reported at the Rayburn House Office Building at approximately 6 p.m. The suspect in the case has been identified as 33-year-old James McIntyre of Illinois.

The department said police interviewed McIntyre and arrested him for assaulting a government official.
